Sage Dental Management is a leading, rapidly growing Dental Service Organization (DSO) committed to innovation, excellence, and patient-centered care.

Overview

At Sage Dental, the Director of Analytics will own the vision and execution of analytics across the organization. This position will inherit a capable team of analysts and BI developers and be expected to grow it strategically over time—adding depth in areas like data science, advanced analytics, and domain-specific expertise as the platform matures and organizational demand increases. The Director of Analytics will work closely with clinical, operations, and finance leadership to translate data into measurable business outcomes.

This is not a greenfield role.  Sage Dental has a robust data model, well-defined metrics, and structured data pipelines integrating our EHR systems, payroll, general ledger, purchasing, and a variety of third-party vendor sources. The foundation is solid—what we need is a strategic leader who can take our analytics function to the next level.

We are actively migrating from a bespoke BI platform to a modern stack built on Databricks and Omni. The data engineering groundwork is underway, and this role will be instrumental in shaping how the analytics layer is built on top of it—defining semantic models, designing the self-service experience, establishing governance patterns, and ensuring the new platform delivers more value than what it replaces.  This position plays a crucial role in architectural decisions about how analytics are consumed across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Set the analytics strategy: Define and execute a multi-year analytics roadmap aligned with organizational goals, working closely with the CTO and executive leadership.
  • Lead and grow the team: Manage and mentor the existing analytics and BI team while developing a hiring roadmap to strategically expand capabilities over time. Identify where the team needs depth—whether in data science, domain expertise, or analytics engineering—and build a team structure that scales with the platform and the business.
  • Drive self-service adoption: Champion a culture of data-driven decision-making by designing and rolling out the Omni-based self-service experience. Define training programs, governance guardrails, and support models that empower business users to explore data independently without sacrificing data quality.
  • Deliver advanced analytics: Introduce predictive models, forecasting, and statistical methods to move the organization beyond descriptive reporting into proactive, prescriptive insights.
  • Own the metrics layer: Govern and evolve the organization’s metric definitions, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and trust across all reporting surfaces as we transition to the new platform.
  • Partner with the business: Collaborate with clinical, operations, finance, and HR leadership to identify high-impact analytical opportunities and deliver actionable insights.
  • Shape the modern BI platform: Work alongside data engineering to define how analytics are built and consumed on Databricks and Omni. Drive decisions on semantic modeling, report migration strategy, and the overall analytics architecture—ensuring the new platform is not just a lift-and-shift but a genuine step forward in capability.
  • Manage the migration: Own the analytics side of the platform transition, including prioritizing which reports and dashboards migrate first, managing stakeholder expectations during the cutover, and ensuring zero loss of critical reporting continuity.
  • Establish analytical rigor: Implement frameworks for experimentation, A/B testing, and measurement that help the organization make confident, evidence-based decisions.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in analytics, business intelligence, or data science, with at least 3 years in a leadership role managing and growing analytics teams.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling analytics functions within complex, multi-site, or healthcare organizations, including hiring plans and team structure decisions.
  • Deep expertise in modern analytics platforms; hands-on experience with Databricks, Spark, or similar lakehouse architectures is strongly preferred.
  • Experience standing up a BI or semantic layer on a modern data platform—not just inheriting one, but making foundational decisions about how analytics are modeled and delivered.
  • Experience with BI tools such as Omni, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI, with a strong point of view on enabling self-service analytics at scale.
  • Strong SQL skills and comfort working with large, complex data models spanning clinical, financial, and operational domains.
  • Familiarity with predictive modeling, statistical analysis, or machine learning techniques and when to apply them in a business context.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing through a major platform migration or BI modernization effort, including stakeholder communication and change management.

Preferred Credentials

  • Experience in dental, healthcare, or multi-site service organizations.
  • Familiarity with EHR data structures and clinical workflow analytics.
